Estimate a Healthy Weight Range
This calculator uses the commonly referenced “healthy” BMI range (18.5–24.9) to turn your height into an approximate weight range for adults. It is a population-based tool and does not account for individual differences such as high muscle mass or specific medical conditions.
How This Ideal Weight Estimate Works
The World Health Organization and many guidelines define a “normal” adult BMI as roughly 18.5–24.9. By rearranging the BMI formula, you can turn this range into a corresponding weight range for a given height. This is the approach used by this calculator.
BMI formula used
BMI is calculated as weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared: BMI = weight (kg) / height (m)^2. This tool uses that formula to convert the standard BMI range into an estimated weight range.
Adult BMI categories (general guidance)
- Underweight: below 18.5
- Normal weight: 18.5-24.9
- Overweight: 25.0-29.9
- Obesity: 30.0 and above
Important limitations
- BMI does not measure body fat directly or show fat distribution.
- Muscular athletes can have higher BMIs without excess body fat.
- Adult BMI ranges are not used to assess children and teens.
- Pregnancy, medical conditions, and age can change what is healthy for you.
Treat this result as a broad reference point rather than a specific target. For individual guidance about weight, health, or body composition, speak with a qualified healthcare or nutrition professional.
